A U.S. Army veteran, I am seeking representation for Liberty by Fire: A Memoir of Independence.
Of the nation’s living veterans, roughly 2 million are women. This book honors their many stories.
Liberty by Fire: A Memoir of Independence is a fast-paced story of survival—how serving in the Army helped me make peace with family secrets more dangerous than anything I experienced in uniform. While there is a whiff of gun smoke and pops of grenade launching, Liberty by Fire is not the usual military memoir about combat. The focus is a young girl’s transformation, taking on universal themes of gender, autonomy, reproductive rights, money and social class. It examines what it takes for a woman to own her body and her life. The military is the backdrop and the battles are personal.
