Philanthropy Communications

Crafting compelling stories that drive philanthropy is what I enjoy most about strategic communications. It gets to the heart of my personal mission to use my creativity to promote the greater good. 

It is why this fall I began teaching Communication and Organizational Philanthropy, an upper-division, online course that introduces San Jose State undergraduates to nonprofit communications and careers in philanthropy.

In addition to the enterprise-level print, digital and multimedia fundraising communications below, I've also created award-winning communications in support of a comprehensive fundraising campaign that raised $209 million from 30,000 individuals, 2,396 corporations and 200 foundations.

  • Enterprise-level fundraising collateral suite: general university case folder, case statements for priority initiatives, planned giving information sheets, thank you cards, stewardship letters and cards, donor annual reports and gift receipts, among other items
  • Online giving and crowdfunding campaigns

Donor Profile Video: Lupe Diaz Compean 

In honor of her late husband, Lupe Diaz Compean donated $15 million to San Jose State to support student-focused programs that will give students the opportunity to pursue their own paths.

Successful fundraising is a result of storytelling and engaging experiences that connect people.

Launching the Institute for the Study of Sport, Society and Social Change 

Part of the team that launched San Jose State's Institute for the Study of Sport, Society and Social Change, I helped to frame the narrative about the university's unique niche in the history of sport and social change through compelling print and digital content, as well as video storytelling.

The university is the birthplace of the Olympic Project for Human Rights, a movement led by Harry Edwards that culminated in the iconic 1968 protest of Olympic medalists Tommie Smith and John Carlos. 

In January 2017, SJSU launched the institute during a special event focused on athlete activism. Watch the launch event highlight video.

Branding the Inspiration to Innovation Gala

In 2016, I proposed leveraging SJSU’s reimagined fundraising gala as a community brand launch, articulating the “Inspiration to Innovation” concept within SJSU’s “power” brand, providing the framework for what is now the university’s signature Inspiration to Innovation fundraising gala.
